According to Chicago Architectural Club official website, 2016 Chicago Prize initially aimed to call for visionary plans that would transform Lake Front. At the moment, it's being bombarded with lots of use and value issues that now hinder its development. This is what the proposal design will address now.
Being the 2016 Chicago Prize winner, Kwong Von Glinow Design Office's the "Grand Lattices" will supposedly change the way Lake Shore Drive is intended for vehicles. As part of Lake Front which is less frequented by people because of traffic, it will now be a space for everyone.
The founder of Kwong Von Glinow Design Office, Alison Von Glinow and Lap Chi Lwong, will create a steel-frame structures in the middle of the northbound and southbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive. it's not going to be simple architectures. It will also serve as an icon for place's urban and natural identity.
As stated by Archinect, Chicagoans love all the Lake Front's aspects from its lake to its Lake Shore Drive highway. Indeed, the 2016 Chicago Prize winner will merge the three to further transform the place.
The "Grand Lattices" use of open steel frames for the architectures are also part of its 2016 Chicago Prize win. There will be different open-lattices to be posted on Long Drive Shore. Each will feature a unique figure that will set its street individuality.
The Lake Shore Drive will not anymore be a driving space. When the "Grand Lattices" are already built on it median, it will also be a place of experience. Through the under tunnels, people will be able to access the steel architecture and admire the city's beauty.
